What complete means here

A run declares its scope (jurisdiction, full scan or since-checkpoint) and ends complete, partial, or failed. Only a complete full scan of a jurisdiction, or an explicit upstream deletion, may mark an establishment unseen; partial runs keep prior observations with their original age and report degraded coverage.

The roadmap of jurisdictions still to collect is on the complete dataset's page.

Releases

Every release is immutable: a delivery names its version, and its manifest lists each file with its SHA-256. These are the complete dataset's releases. The last 8 are below, newest first.

GET /product/v1/datasets/us-food-inspections/feed returns every upsert and removal since the sequence number you last read, pinned to the newest published release; page with next_since until has_more is false.

POST /product/v1/datasets/us-food-inspections/exports queues a CSV of the newest published release, cut by field, by jurisdiction, and by inspected-on date, and serves it with its SHA-256.

The sample is a catalog route and needs only the product token. The feed and exports are delivery routes and also need the entitlement assertion your customer backend signs; an assertion for this subset grants oh-madison only. See the API docs, or fetch the sample with no token from this site's mock at /api/product/v1/datasets/us-food-inspections/sample.

Use cases

Health districts publish inspections on 100+ portals with no API, each in its own layout, and a restaurant that stops appearing is not the same as a restaurant that closed.

Questions it answers

Which establishments were licensed in the last 30 days in Montgomery County?

Which operators had a critical violation on a follow-up inspection this quarter?

Which licences changed from licensed to closed since the last release?

Who buys it

Restaurant software and POS vendors; Food-service distributors and suppliers; Compliance and insurance underwriting; Commercial real estate and site selection.

Provenance and cadence

Provenance

Collected directly from local health district portals (Dayton PHDMC, Cincinnati Socrata, Columbus ArcGIS, and 58 districts on inspections.myhealthdepartment.com) with an identified crawler at each portal's stated crawl delay. Public records.

Cadence

Daily where the source publishes daily; otherwise on the district's cycle, with a freshness target of 72 hours.

Last complete scan of oh-madison: Oct 6, 2026, 15:48 UTC.

FAQ

How often is it updated?+-

Daily where the source publishes daily; otherwise on the district's cycle, with a freshness target of 72 hours.

The newest release is v41, published Oct 7, 2026, 02:14 UTC. A subscription is delivered weekly, monthly, or quarterly, or as updates only: the rows that changed since your last delivery.

Can I buy part of it, or filter it?+-

Yes. Each jurisdiction in the latest release is sold on its own (6 today, listed on the complete dataset's page). An export can also be cut by field, by jurisdiction, and by a inspected-on date range. You pay per record delivered. Estimate a subset.

What formats and destinations are supported?+-

CSV, JSON Lines, Parquet, delivered by Download, Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, SFTP, Webhook, Snowflake (on request). Every file carries its release id, and an API export carries its SHA-256 in X-Trove-SHA256.

Is there a free sample?+-

Yes, with no account: 600 rows from sample release v7. Up to 200 rows per kind, stratified by partition, children of sampled parents only. Open the sample in the workbench, or fetch it from /product/v1/datasets/us-food-inspections/sample.

Can you collect a jurisdiction or record type you do not have yet?+-

Yes. A new jurisdiction or record category is collected within 30 days of a signed order, or the setup fee is refunded. 215 jurisdictions on this dataset's roadmap are planned; an order moves one up. Ask for one.

What is not distributed?+-

Only the 19 fields in the data dictionary are distributed. The inspector's own comments on a violation are not included; a violation carries the cited code requirement only. A jurisdiction that is not in the latest release is not delivered until it is.
